October 2022 In Review

October saw a heavy focus on developers and the Spacers NFT collection. We announced our participation in two hackathons, and released our developer playground. The Spacers developments began with the release of the launch trailer, then the formal full announcement and release of the Spacers documentation, and finally the sale began.

The first alternative web app built on Subsocial is in development right now, and our Kusama treasury proposal to fund further Sub.ID development was approved. Let’s start there.

Sub.ID Funding Proposal

Our Kusama treasury proposal for 9016 KSM was approved to fund development of multiple Sub.ID features such as a staking dashboard (for multiple chains supported by Sub.ID), and the ability to claim vested crowdloan tokens and perform cross-chain transfers all in one place.

We are waiting on this staking dashboard to release Subsocial staking, as we will use it for our staking UI.

LATAM Hackathon

The Subsocial team is sponsoring the Polkadot LATAM Hackathon, with four categories to compete on, from Web3 tooling to NFTs. We have posted a $5,000 bounty, in addition to the $3,000, $10,000, and $17,000 bounties posted by Polkadot. See the official page for more information.

IBC Media Hackathon

The Subsocial team is sponsoring the IBC Media Hackathon, with a totalprize pool over $100,000! We have 3 challenges for this specific hackathon, shown below.

There is still a few weeks left to register, with the hackathon taking place over the month of December.

Subsocial’s Developer Playground

The Developer Playground was released on October 11th, allowing for easy experimentation with the Subsocial SDK. Try it out or read the full announcement for more details.

Spacers Launch Trailer

The launch trailer for the Spacers NFT collection was released on October 19th. Created in partnership with Monte-Crypto, it revealed some of the lore behind the Spacers, as well as details of the collection and the public sale date.

The Arrival Of The Spacer Fleet

October 20th saw the formal announcement of the Spacers, including the release of the full documentation containing all of the important details about the collection and sale.

RMRK Roundtable

We spoke with the RMRK and Alpha Airdrop teams on the Roundtable Twitter space on October 29th, talking about the need for Subsocial, what the Spacers are, and how the two projects will integrate and grow together. It was a fantastic conversation, we hope you give it a listen.

Another Dapp On Subsocial?

Saving what is perhaps the best news for last, a bit of an early look at the first dapp built by another team that runs on Subsocial! The Polkadot Arena Blog was built for the Italian community with a strong focus on SEO, and pulls all of its content from Subsocial’s blockchain! The project is still a work in progress, and the team has lots of ideas on how they will continue to improve it, but it’s awesome to see more sites popping up that use Subsocial.
