March 2023 In Review
Last month saw some exciting developments in the Subsocial ecosystem, as well as the migration from Kusama to Polkadot! Let’s dive in and take a closer look at what happened in the world of Subsocial during March.
Stake Your ZTG On Sub.ID
The month started off with Sub.ID receiving increased staking support. Holders of ZTG tokens can now stake to Zeitgeist collators directly from Sub.ID. This addition brings Sub.ID one step closer to becoming the most comprehensive portfolio management tool in the ecosystem.
Frentube
Initially created for the Polkadot Europe Hackathon, Frentube (previously named Poltube) is becoming Subsocial’s first video sharing platform! Though it is still in development, you can sign up for the waitlist on their website, or follow them on Twitter.
We are very excited to receive more multimedia content support in the Subsocial ecosystem, and multiple projects have already reached out to the Frentube team to discuss partnerships!
Winners Of The Polkadot Europe Hackathon
With thousands of dollars in prizes awarded, this hackathon was quite productive for the Subsocial ecosystem. March saw the winners for Subsocial’s bounties get announced, including the previously mentioned Frentube. One submission, Subdot, became one of the hackathon finalists and was invited to the dotSocial event in Paris!
An Update On The Spacers Mint
We have been working with the RMRK team throughout the month of March as we move towards the Spacers mint. Due to the size and complexity of The Spacer Fleet, quite a lot of work is required to get everything ready, though progress is going smoothly.
The RMRK team is also putting some finishing touches on their EVM implementation, which we will be using. We expect the mint to take place in the coming weeks, and will announce it in the SpacerDAO Discord server.
Renovated Landing Page
On March 17th, the Subsocial website was updated to better align with our current focus on our developer ecosystem.
In addition to showing some statistics for our network and ecosystem, the updated site makes it easier than ever for interested developers to learn why they should choose Subsocial, and how to get started building.
Sub.ID Treasury Proposal
Batch 2 of our treasury proposal for continued development of Sub.ID was submitted on-chain on March 17th after receiving some positive feedback during the discussion phase.
Unfortunately, due to inactivity from a majority of the Polkadot council, the proposal was not approved, as it did not receive a majority of Aye votes. The proposal has returned to the queue to be voted on again, since it did not receive a majority of Nay votes either.
Migrating From Kusama To Polkadot
After securing a Polkadot parachain slot in January for 15,000 DOT, Subsocial has successfully migrated from Kusama to Polkadot! We want to thank KILT, Zeitgeist, and a few ecosystem members for helping us overcome this technical challenge.
This milestone marks the beginning of a new era in the development and expansion of the Subsocial ecosystem, and propels us towards becoming the social layer of Polkadot.
2023 continues to be an exciting year for Subsocial. As always, we are committed to continuing our mission to create a decentralized, censorship-resistant social network platform where users control their data and content. Be sure to stay tuned for more exciting developments and events in the coming months. Thank you for your continued support!
